YP Engage: Community Safety System Initiative

YP Engage: Community Safety System Initiative

Join us for a YP Engage with Eugene Police Chief Skinner as he shares insights about the Community Safety System Initiative and the collaborative approach to improve safety in our community. YPs are critical to this conversation as we work to build our community for right now and the future.

Community Safety System Initiative
What is it? A system made up of interdependent city departments and community partners working collaboratively to address safety needs including Police, Homeless outreach, Jail services, 911, Municipal courts, Cahoots, Youth Services, Fire & EMS. This initiative recognizes the success of the collaboration between services such as Cahoots, who respond to 17% of 911 calls, freeing first responders for other calls.

How does it impact you? Right now the Community Safety System is stressed, impacting us all. While many creative programs have been applied to this problem to maximize resources and meet community needs, the growing demand continues to outpace capacity causing critical gaps in community safety and services.
